Closer but not close enough for fairness

Dear Editor,

Thanks for the reply. I am encouraged the article "Overturn the Bush Decision?" will be included in the GA edition of The Outlook. The inclusion of that article will make it a ratio of 4 1/2 or 1 1/2 on the ordination issue, hardly balanced or fair especially in light of the timing.

God's blessings to you,
Matt - Matt Ferguson

Outlook's lack of balance

Dear Editor,
I see that on the website of The Outlook there were posted 5 article's related to the ordination of homosexuals in the last few days. Achtemeier's "A More Excellent Way"; Kostner's "Trust and the Authoritative Interpretation"; Porter's "The Priority for this GA"; Boulton's "Sex A Better Way"; and Henderson's "Presbyterian Essentials". So, how many of those were written to support our denomination's orthodox position, a position that has been and is the orthodox position of the church universal throughout history? Zero. I know, I know, Kostner's article supports upholding the recent GAPJC ruling but the writer makes it clear he is opposed to "b" and would prefer it to be removed---just not through this GA making another Authoritative Interpretation. So let's make it 4 1/2 to 1/2 in the ration we find in The Outlook. Where is your editorial fairness and balance?

EDITOR'S COMMENT: ONE MORE ARTICLE, TITLED "OVERTURN THE BUSH DECISION?" WHICH DEFINITIVELY DEFENDS THE EXISTING POLICY, DID NOT ARRIVE IN TIME FOR THIS EDITION OF THE MAGAZINE, BUT IT WILL APPEAR IN THE JUNE 23 EDITION. IT HAS BEEN POSTED ON OUR WEB SITE ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THE REPORTS AND RESOUCES SECTION. - Matthew Ferguson

Thank you for your loving, grace-centered, insightful essay, Jack.

Sid, I hear you asking how any sincere Christian can hear the Word in any other way than you hear it. That - and not our divergent interpretations of Scripture - is the greater difference between us. I don't doubt the sincerity of your faith. I pray that, if nothing else, one outcome of this GA is that all believers some to understand that all believers are, in fact, believers.

Grace & peace,
Jenny - Jenny Howard

Thank you, Jack.
Based on my experience in PCUSA on both coasts, I am sure that no decision will please everyone this year. While recent events in CA may alter what happens, I hope the GA chooses the path of prayerful discernment. It's a scary concept - Who knows where that could lead us? Well..God, for one.

The obvious options are one that frustrates half of the PCUSA membership, or a pandering that frustrates all. We are anxiously awaiting a non-obvious option. I am praying for their guidance.

Peace,

8) Good job, Jack. Reformed Christians do indeed change hearts and minds by proclaiming the word of God. Actually, Christians do not change hearts and minds. God's word changes. That word is clear: Same-sex relations are not the will and intention of God for humanity. How can commissioners to General Assembly hear anything else? - Sid Leak
