Marriage Enhancement for Clergy Couples
Clergy couples are subject to the same challenges as other married couples but they also carry the additional burden of being under more scrutiny with the expectation of being the perfect, model couple and/or family. Being more visible in the community may make seeking couple’s therapy awkward and often leaves the minister and his/her spouse struggling alone and isolated with few resources that feel safe and confidential. In this workshop, participants will be encouraged to explore ways to be more conscious and emotionally responsive to each other’s needs and to experiment with different ways to handle difficult emotions surrounding often unchangeable circumstances. Special attention will be paid to helping couples learn to re-engage spiritually and emotionally and to maximize the unique, positive opportunities they encounter as clergy couples.
Prior to the workshop, each couple will be asked to complete the Myers Briggs Type Indicator which identifies 16 separate personality types and clarifies what individuals most need to feel loved and valued.
Leaders will be Jim and Melissa Leehan; see previous retreat description for information about them.
Fee: $700/couple.
Restricted Audience: Yes (ordainer pastors)
