The 2008 Berger Lecturer is Dr. Richard B. Hays, George Washington Ivey Professor of New Testament, Duke University Divinity School. Professor Hays has lectured widely in North America, Great Britain, Europe, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand. An ordained United Methodist minister, he has preached in settings ranging from rural American churches to London’s Westminster Abbey. Dr. Hays is internationally recognized for his work on the letters of Paul and on New Testament ethics. His scholarly work has bridged the disciplines of biblical criticism and literary studies, exploring the innovative ways in which early Christian writers interpreted Israel’s Scripture. He will be lecturing on Reading the Old Testament with Matthew and John.

The 2008 Woods Lecturer is Dr. Robert K. Johnston, Professor of Theology and Culture, Fuller Seminary. A graduate of Stanford University and Fuller Theological Seminary, Dr. Johnston received his PhD from Duke University. He has over 20 years of teaching, ecclesial, and academic administrative experience, including 11 years as dean and provost at North Park College and Theological Seminary. He joined the faculty of Fuller Seminary in 1993, serving as provost until 1995, and now as professor of theology and culture. Professor Johnston has published in a variety of fields, including selected Old Testament topics, evangelical theology, and most recently, theology and film. He is general editor of the New International Biblical Commentary Series, Old Testament (Hendrickson) and co-editor of the “Engaging Culture” series for Baker Academic Books. An ordained minister in the Evangelical Covenant Church, Dr. Johnston will lecture on Reframing Theology and Film.
